Essential Oil Steam Distiller

This is the perfect system for making your own high-frequency, steam-distilled essential oils! The unit is a true vertical steam distillation system designed for extraction of essential oils from plant materials at home. Unlike other steam distillation units on the market, this unit performs true "dry steam" distillation in an all-glass system. Using only ground glass joints, there are no hoses or rubber stoppers to contaminate your product. Because of its "vertical" design, the biomass flask stays dry, none of the "boiling water" is wastefully condensed and trapped in the biomass flask, and there is no risk of overheating or possibly burning your plant material. The best BIG system for making your own STEAM DISTILLED essential oils! Our new line of large gas-fired essential oil steam distillers has been designed from the ground up to be the perfect steam distillation system for medium sized needs. Many departures have been made from "standard" steam distiller designs which results in highly improved performance and maintainability. Look closely at the picture at right. This is not just a "can" full of boiling water and plants. Maintaining the entire biocontainer at exactly boiling temperature (100°c) during production is very important for obtaining maximum quality and quantity of both essential oil and hydrosol. For big systems this usually isn't practical. Big remote steam-fed bio-chambers are usually just sitting out in open air, which by definition allows their walls to be cooled by that air, so some water condensation on the inside of those walls is always going to occur. Any water that ends up in the biocontainer robs you of potential hydrosol, and also renders any biomaterial it comes in contact with undistillable, and the biomass touching the chamber walls may not get properly distilled at all. It's a difficult problem. Insulating the biocontainer is an answer, but costly and physically cumbersome. Also, in large steam-fed distillers that use separate steam generators, there a continual dance of controlling pressure and temperature of the steam going into the biochamber- tricky to get right. Made especially for members of the Crucible Catalog, this unique distilling apparatus is a modern rendition of one of the Medieval alchemists' favorite pieces of labware -- the famous "Pelican." The Pelican is a circulatory distillation vessel with two side-arms feeding condensed vapors back into the body. It resembles a pelican pecking at its breast to feed its hatchlings with its own blood, and thus is a symbol of the sacrifice the original solution goes through to give up its essence in the experiment. The alchemist believed that compounds could be created in the Pelican that no other apparatus could produce. Unit consists of lower Pelican and upper alembic or condensing vessel.
